Moving Day: What
You Should Expect
At this time you will know when we will arrive,
normally you will know the project manager or the driver that is
responsible for your move. Go to this person with any questions.
Arrival usually begins with a written inventory of your goods, assessing
each items condition and giving it a number. The inventory will
ensure that everything arrives at your destination in the condition in
which they started. Its also done so a damage claim cannot be filed
on items with previous damage. Make sure you agree with everything
before you sign. After inventory the moving company, starts loading
the moving truck after determining the best order in which to pack the
items. Separate everything out that you do not want loaded, personal
good, jewelry, important documents etc, so you can plan to carry it
separately. We have a technique for loading your stuff, each piece
will may require a different type of packing. We review your items
because we plan on packing the truck from floor to roof. To ensure a
tight pack to prevent shifting we may take items or boxes from different
rooms. Alright, now move out of the way, allow your hired
movers to move your stuff. That's why you hired us, so you can
relax.
Provide contact information and driving direction to
the driver. Review all the paperwork, and make sure there is someone
at home that can make relevant decisions. Take pictures of your
home, the inventory, the truck, what ever you feel like.
----------------------------------------------------More Frequently
Asked Questions---------------------------------------------------
Taking
beds apart? What about waterbeds?
We will take all beds apart and remove any mirrors from
dressers. Additionally, if you have any furniture that requires
disassembly (i.e. desks, wardrobes, etc.) we will take those apart. All
these items will be assembled at the new house to their original
condition. We will disassemble water beds if they have been drained ahead
of time.
Packing mirrors, paintings, and pictures?
All pictures and paintings need to be packed. Smaller ones
will usually fit in regular boxes; those larger than 20in. by 20in. should
be packed in picture boxes. We can provide these for you ahead of time. We
will wrap all dresser mirrors and any glass shelves or table tops you may
have on the day of the move.
What about lamps and lampshades?
Shades should be removed from all lamps and packed in boxes.
We will move floor lamps if the shades are removed. Table lamps should be
packed in boxes like any fragile items. If the lamps won't fit in regular
boxes we can provide special lamp boxes at a minimal cost.
Packing dresser drawers?
You DO NOT have to pack items in dresser drawers if they are
not fragile. We recommend that you DO pack drawers of end tables, desks,
and nitestands. These sometimes contain loose items that can easily fall
out during the move. You should also pack the items in any furniture that
has doors.
Protecting the floors from moving, both current and new house?
We pad the entrance foyer and all areas where we will be going
in and out of the house. We pad all stair railings and remove any doors
deemed necessary. If the walkways are clear of all mud and debris, there
is never a problem with carpets. For insurance reasons, we CANNOT remove
shoes. It is your responsibility to make sure the walkway and driveway is
clean on moving day.
The driveway should be ready for a big moving truck.
If we have to unload from the street, there will be an
additional charge. The length and slope of the driveway will determine
this cost. For out-of-town moves this cost is determined by weight.
Packing the refrigerator/freezer?
Refrigerators and freezers are usually some of the last items
to be loaded on the truck. The crew leader will notify you at least 30
minutes before these are loaded. Pack food in coolers and small boxes so
they can be placed in the back of the truck and unloaded first.
Packing Plants?
We can move your plants; however, we cannot guarantee their survival.
Obviously, a move across town is not as taxing on your plants as a move
from coast to coast. Some plants are more sensitive to changes in light,
temperature, and humidity than others. We recommend that you transport
your plants if possible. If not, we'll do our very best to keep them green
and growing.
Hazardous Materials
Trucking laws do not allow us to transport hazardous materials
such as gasoline, cleaning fluids, aerosols and LP Gas tanks. Please drain
the fuel from all equipment -- lawn mowers, go-carts, gas grills,
etceteras -- prior to our arrival.
Insure your Belongings
We are required by law to carry insurance on the contents of
our trucks. However, you may have furniture or other items of special
value that you wish to insure at replacement value or shipper declared
value. Our representative will explain to you which is more appropriate
for your move.
Let us Pack
We know how to pack all of your belongings in the safest
packing materials and boxes. You may be tempted to do all the packing
yourself; however, in the long run, professional packing will not only
reduce your stress level and save time during the move, but will give you
peace of mind that your treasured things will arrive safely at your new
home or office.
